To have a good crop each year you need to start off with a rich field that has been worked, turned and nourished so the seeds can take root and grow into a flourishing crop blessed by Mother Nature. The SAS organization works in a similar way. Westart planning for the next year’s fair before the current one starts and committees meet throughout the year setting in place all that is needed to run a successful spring agricultural fair this too with the blessing of Mother Nature.
Great committees, passionate dedicated volunteers, strong youth participation and incredible support from our community are the seeds of our organization that allow the Schomberg Agricultural Society to grow and represent us in our 163rd Spring Agricultural Fair . Our organization has many generations of families that have dedicated their time, their hearts and passion to this organization making it the success it is today . Fair time brings families together as one to enjoy something that has been part of their lives for many years. These families are our roots and help us Promote Agriculture in everything they do and say.
Each year at the fair you see youth participating, and volunteering their time because they want to. On the fair weekend these kids join us with enthusiasm and spunk. In 2012 we resurrected our Agri-Kids Program. We wanted to let our youth know that we understand that they are the roots of our organization as we once were. The youth meet several times before the fair and organize a float for the parade. We did not need to give them something special to do during the fair as all these kids were already active in many other committees. If you have kids that want to become involved with the fairor have considered joining this group please call Cathy our Manager at (905) 939-8283 and she will connect them to the group leader.
This year’s theme is Promoting Agriculture from the Ground Up. Promoting agricultureis the main mandate of the SAS. In all we do we strive to reinforce agriculture, from our Agricultural Spring Fair, to the Farmer’s Market , the Community Bonfire, and Our Farm Tour. Agriculture is front and centre in all we do . Promoting Agriculture from ground up in turns promotes our Community, our people and celebrates the great community we live in.
Thank you to all that have kept your passion and dedication over the years to the vision of the Agricultural Society. This drive in each of us has made our Organization the success we are today.
